Headline fees lie. Poshmark’s 20% looks brutal until you remember the buyer pays the label. eBay’s “13%” grows when shipping and tax sit in the fee base. Vinted’s $0 seller fee is real — and the buyer still pays protection. This page runs the same $50 item across eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Facebook Marketplace, Vinted, and Depop, in a table you can read with JavaScript off. Then it tells you what the model leaves out. For the piece in your hand, scan it and let the result screen do live fee math.
Assumptions, so the rows are comparable:
| Platform | Seller fee used in this model | Fee on $50 | You keep | Who pays shipping (typical) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eBay | Most US categories: 13.6% final value fee + $0.40 per-order fee (orders over $10). No Store rate. Category exceptions exist (books, some sneakers, guitars, etc.). | $7.20 | $42.80 | You, unless you build it into the BIN. Percentage can also hit shipping + tax. |
| Poshmark | 20% of item price at $15+. (Under $15 is $2.95 flat — not this row.) | $10.00 | $40.00 | Buyer, via Poshmark prepaid label on a standard clothing sale. |
| Mercari | Flat 10% selling fee. Separate seller processing fee removed (Jan 2025). Buyer pays a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee that does not come out of your payout. | $5.00 | $45.00 | You or the buyer, depending on listing. 10% also applies to buyer-paid shipping if you charge it. |
| Facebook Marketplace — local pickup | $0 when payment happens outside checkout (cash / app). | $0.00 | $50.00 | None. You meet the buyer. This is why couches and strollers belong here. |
| Facebook Marketplace — shipped checkout | Public 2026 help text: 10% of buyer-paid total, $0.80 minimum, deducted from payout. Meta has changed this (it used to be cited at 5%). Verify in Commerce settings. | $5.00 | $45.00 | Buyer via checkout. Do not mix this row up with local pickup. |
| Vinted | $0 seller commission on a standard US sale. Buyer Protection on the US price list: $0.70 + 5% of item price, paid by the buyer. Optional Item Bump / Spotlight extra. | $0.00 | $50.00 | Buyer, on Vinted’s generated label. You print and ship. |
| Depop (US) | No Depop selling commission for US sellers (removed 2024). You still pay Depop Payments processing: 3.3% + $0.45 on item + shipping + tax. Boost is a separate 12% if you opt in and it sells. | $2.10 | $47.90 | Buyer or you. Processing is charged on shipping too if the buyer pays it. |
Worked examples from public 2026 fee pages — not live payouts and not a substitute for each platform’s help center. Recheck before you price a drop. Etsy is omitted from the $50 grid (user asked for the six marketplaces above); US Etsy is typically $0.20 listing + 6.5% transaction + 3% + $0.25 processing ≈ $5.20 on a $50 free-shipping sale, more if Offsite Ads fire.
13.6% × $50 = $6.80. Per-order fee $0.40. Total $7.20. Keep $42.80. If the buyer also pays $8 shipping and that shipping sits in eBay’s fee base, add 13.6% × $8 = $1.09, keep less. Store subscribers often see a lower percentage up to a threshold — use your own fee table, not this row, if you pay for a Store.
20% × $50 = $10. Keep $40. The $15 cliff is the gotcha on cheaper items: $14.99 → $2.95 fee; $15.00 → $3.00 fee. Walk through that in how to price on Poshmark before you park everything at $15.00.
10% × $50 = $5. Keep $45. If you charge the buyer $6 shipping, many 2026 explainers treat the 10% as applying to $56 ($5.60 fee). Free-shipping listings: fee on item only, but you buy the label.
Local: $50 in, $50 out, minus whatever you spend on gas and a shady parking lot. Shipped checkout: 10% × $50 = $5 in this model ($0.80 floor would only matter on tiny orders). If older blog posts still say 5%, they are stale.
You keep $50. The buyer sees about $0.70 + 5% × $50 = $3.20 protection on top of your price, plus shipping. High list prices can feel expensive at checkout even though your cut is 100%. Price knowing the buyer’s all-in, not just your net.
3.3% × $50 = $1.65, plus $0.45 = $2.10. Keep $47.90. Canada and many other countries still pay a 10% selling fee — do not copy this row onto a non-US account. Boosted sales add 12% if you turned Boost on.
Highest take-home ≠ right platform. Vinted and Facebook local win the $50 grid on fees and lose on audience for a lot of SKUs. A $50 eBay sold that actually happens beats a $50 Vinted listing that sits. Run fees after you know the item can sell there — see sold comps.
Use the table to stop being surprised by payout screens. Use sold comps to pick a price. Use platform fit (clothing → Posh/Depop/Vinted, electronics → eBay, bulky → Facebook local) to pick a channel. Cross-list only if you can delist on a sale.
Photo shortcut: SnapPrice’s result screen is this table for your item — estimated list, fees, take-home across platforms — without redoing the arithmetic. One free scan. That is the point of the product, not a second copy of this HTML table.
The $50 grid is a teaching model. Your jacket is not $50, and eBay may charge on shipping. Snap a photo, pick condition, and read take-home for eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Facebook, and more on the result screen.
